Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. had its humble beginnings as the vision of nine college
students on the campus of Howard University in 1908. Since then, the sorority has
flourished into a globally impactful organization of over 355,000 college-trained
members, bound by the bonds of sisterhood and empowered by a commitment to servant-leadership
that is both domestic and international in its scope.
Alpha Kappa Alpha’s mission is to cultivate and encourage high scholastic and ethical
standards, to promote unity and friendship among college women, to study and help
alleviate problems concerning girls and women in order to improve their social stature,
to maintain a progressive interest in college life, and to be of “Service to All Mankind.”
Alpha Kappa Alpha seeks women who will promote, uphold, and extend its policies and
programs. In return, the Sorority is a conduit through which individuals can grow
and develop, personally and professionally, while simultaneously providing "Service
to All Mankind”
The Kappa Rho Chapter of Austin Peay State University was first chartered by the guiding
light and advisement of Glistine Jones with the mission of "Being a Service to All
Man-kind" The ladies of the Kappa Rho Chapter of Austin Peay State University uphold
their mission statement by supporting students on campus and people within the Clarksville
community with service. Kappa Rho constantly strives to do service through their international
program such as uplifting ther local community, advocating for social justice, family
empowerment, enhancing our environment and building our economic wealth. The women
of the Kappa Rho Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. work hard to serve their
community for greater achievement and prosperity.
